LOGOS | Canadian Broadcasting Corporation ::: 75th Anniversary, etc.
I like it. It’s reminiscent of the old butterfly logo.

Absolutely terrible. A five that looks like an S. If they wanted to keep it geometric why add the slight curves on either side. Notice how the original logo is all lined vertically and horizontally in a grid… well the 7 and the 5 don’t. Really really hate this. Trying way too hard.

I’ve been in a Burton-Kramer-CBC-logo frame of mind lately, with this picture of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s annual report from 1974 as my desktop image:
»Ici Radio-Canada«
Kramer’s “exploding pizza” for the CBC is one the outstanding works of Canadian graphic art from the 1970s (1974, to be exact). I’d go as far as saying that this is the best Canadian logo from the 1970s.
When networks began to shove their logos in the lower right corner of the screen, the pizza was truncated by an American firm.
The redo did away with Burton’s central “C” and condensed the image until in resembles an … exploding blob. It still looks good as a logo (classy, as far as network IDs go), but the original still rules. It has a verve and swagger missing from the derivative version:
As for the 75th anniversary logo (from an anonymous designer?), I’m not sure. On first glimpse it feels a bit clumsy, but overall I think it hits the spot nicely. Thinking of it in term’s of the 1966 butterfly helps. A lot.
The celebrations will figure most prominently during the period of 22 August to 2 November 2011 — the 75-day countdown to the official anniversary. Happy birthday, CBC!

CBC/Radio-Canada plans a year of celebrations leading up to the 75th anniversary of the creation of the public broadcaster.
The Canadian Broadcasting Act went into effect on Nov. 2, 1936, and established a new Crown corporation, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, taking over from the Canadian Radio Broadcasting Commission. The radio service was launched immediately and CBC began building a national network.
‘Throughout its history, CBC/Radio-Canada has contributed to the nation’s history by broadcasting the great stories of this country,’ Tim Casgrain, chair of the CBC board of directors, said in a broadcast to employees on Tuesday.
‘On the 75th anniversary we will ask Canadians to reflect on the role that CBC plays at home and in community.’
The network unveiled a commemorative logo and a new slogan: ‘Yours to celebrate.’
