VANCOUVER 2010 WINTER OLYMPICS | THE LOOK OF THE GAMES :: YVR AIR CANADA HANGER SUPER GRAPHIC
One of the best things the organizers of the City of Vancouver’s “The Look of the City” and VANOC’s “The Look of the Games” teams did was to postpone the unveiling of “The Look” until the last moment.
The one BIG exception has been Air Canada’s massive hangar. The supergraphic there has been up for months now, giving us a preview of the 2010 “Look of the Games.”
It’s a huge example of The Look that expresses the excitement of the games and the hopes of the athletes from around the world who are here at the biggest party of their lives.
It’s a beautiful exercise in corporate art and promotion. I like how, in my photos, the vertical grooves in the hanger’s side walls accentuate the feel of motion inherent in the design work.
Here’s the “Look of the Games” at Toronto’s Pearson International in July 2010:
It’s not bad, but the Vancouver version rules.
And, finally, the wonderful folk at Air Canada and their new livery in early 2009:
