SLIM: THE BOOK

NOW, that’s a terno!

Fashion photos by Neal Oshima

SLIM: Salvacíon Lim Higgins is a stunning book. It’s obviously a labour of love (curated by her son, Mark Lewis Higgins) and cements Lim Higgins’s place in the history of fashion.

The photos (dozens of archival shots plus exquisite photographs of the gowns by Neal Oshima), are stunning. The design also features many gatefold spreads to better display Slim’s highly original designs.

But it’s the book design (by B+C Design) that is worthy of special note. This is a beautifully designed work of graphic art. Somehow B+C caught the colour palette zeitgeist: the book reminds me of Holt Renfrew’s somewhat recent corporate makeover in magenta (or whatever that colour is). Why is that colour chic?

To the team at B+C Design (Baby Imperial, Coco Anne and Ephren Prieto), “Congratulations!” on such a magnificent graphic presentation of the material.

SLIM is my choice for best book design of 2009. Bravo!
